Water purification

Harvesting and distributing water using natural resources like gravity and solar power is the main source for our solutions. Avoiding the grid is our goal, being less independent from incidents which can occur, such as a cut in the electricity supply. Our solutions are designed using durable freely available energy resources.

For purifying the scarcely available water for agricultural use, we offer two types of solution that may be used within the same project.

The first purification solution is based on Ultra-filtration (UF)

The second solution is based on Ultra-Violet purification

Additional information about UF

Ultrafiltration is a pressure-driven membrane technology to remove bacteria and viruses, including the Legionella bacteria, from the water.

The water is pushed with a minimum of 2 bar through the 0.03 μm pores of the membrane wall from the inside to the outside whilst removing suspended solids, particles, viruses and bacteria from the water. The remaining particles on the inside of the membrane can be easily removed from the membrane wall via an automatic forward and/or backward flushing device. This self-cleaning process of the Legionella filters makes use of the water pressure from the supply source. The remaining particles, including the Legionella bacteria and viruses, will be flushed to the drain. The efficiency for the reduction of bacteria is 99.9999%.

As a result of the open foam structure of the membrane, the system can be operated with a very low pressure and high fluxes.

Additional information about UV

UV is a purification method, which is simple to use by communities that are ready to battle water problems and purify water easily. The simple device uses a strong UV lamp to kill harmful bacteria and viruses (up to 99.99%). Additional filters reduce bad taste by straining out fine grain and silt material. The energy to power the UV WaterBox lamp is obtained from a solar panel. The system is independent of the local grid, can easily be installed, is operated and maintained by a local workforce. Especially suitable in remote locations.

Water Production

On daily basis 5,000 to 10,000 litres of water can be purified dependent on the size of the UV system installed. The UV system therefore can serve between 1,600 and 3,200 people with clean safe drinking water, assuming that one person consumes 3 litres of fresh water per day.

Additional filtering

The effect of the UV treatment is maximised by using three simple filters to remove dirt, silt and sand from the source water. The filters also reduce bad tastes and odours, thereby improving the quality of the output water considerably.
